Vineyard Vitals

An unprecedented warm and dry winter has has everyone dancing, praying, and singing for rain.  At the time of writing, we have finally received the beginnings of what could be a good winter storm.  We certainly need it, with only one decent rainstorm on the books so far this season.

For now, Jimmy will continue singing his own karaoke rendition of “Let It Rain” in hopes that the water gods are listening! We look forward to seeing everyone for fun, hayrides, karaoke, and wine drinking this year.  Cheers!

Winemaker’s Notes

*Please enjoy these 100% Estate Doce Robles Winery & Vineyard wines*

2012 Estate Petite Sirah

Savory aromas of blackberries, spices, fresh blueberry, and a nuance of lavender.  On the palate, flavors centered on a dense blackberry fruit character, with chocolate, blueberry, licorice and black pepper dimensions.

2011 Estate Barbera

On the nose, this wine is very aromatic, with lively notes of blackberry butterscotch, strawberry jam, briar patch, sweet tobacco, cocoa and a hint of baking spice.  Incredibly soft and supple on entry, with a rush of juicy flavors, including Bing cherry, raspberry, and cassis up front, followed by toasty oak, grilled plum, briar patch, oak and baker’s chocolate.

NV Estate Sunset Red V

This wine is boldly fragrant, with aromas of black cherry, smoky cherry, tobacco, cedar, toasty oak, molasses, black tea, spice and a hint of very subtle mint.  Darkly juicy and bold on the palate, with flavors of bold young blackberry, black cherry, Acerola cherry, young strawberry, dusty bramble, roasted fig, plum, black tea, hard leather, tobacco and subtle resin.

2012 Estate Robles Rojos

An estate blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and 20% Cabernet Franc.  This wine is sweet and rich on the nose, with mixed berry compote of blueberry, chocolate covered cherry, Santa Rosa plum, spice, black tea, and toasty cedar.  Juicy flavors explode onto the palate, with fruits in the lead. Blackberry, black cherry, Alpine strawberry, plum, grilled fig, mixed dark spice, darkly toasted oak, subtle tobacco leaf and smoky blueberry.

2012 Estate Zinfandel

On the nose, fresh wild raspberry, bramble bush, blackberry, cassis, wild strawberry, subtle tobacco leaf, sweet spice, and toasty oak. Juicy and delicious on the palate, with blackberry juice, black cherry, dusty bramble, cocoa powder, subtle spice and subtle oak.  This Zinfandel is supple and soft on entry, then softly grippy as soft, plush tannins give the wine a slightly chewy feel. Flavors persist for a very long time before fading into a softly spiced dryness.

Critter Corner!

Sophie & Genna continue to live the best lives imaginable as happy winery dogs.  In the mornings, you can find them chasing rabbits in the vineyard and following Daddy Jimmy on the tractor.  At lunchtime, they follow Daddy Jimmy up to the house for lunch, and most afternoons are spent curled up napping in the tasting room or, on warm days, on the cool grass underneath the oaks trees.

Minnie is happy and healthy and hiding in the winery building!
