Merlot grapes ready to be harvested

Vineyard Vitals

What a year 2015 has been! As we get closer to the end of our 19th harvest, we are reflecting on all that this year has brought and all that we have to look forward to this winter. This year Maribeth & Jimmy demolished their old house on the property and put in a beautiful new abode. New friends and old were celebrated during weddings and private parties. The JIMMYMON label received its first accolade and Jimmymon himself launched an informative and fun online video series. The drought continues, however, we are hopeful for a rainy winter.  Predictions of El Nino were strengthened by strange weather patterns including a huge electrical storm in July that resulted in flooding in Paso Robles and a complete loss of electricity in Templeton. Due to Jimmy’s excellent farming techniques, all 3.4 inches of rain (over 90,000 gallons per acre) that our vineyards received in less than 12 hours went straight into the ground.  Despite the bizarre weather, the vineyard has experienced a good harvest.

Harvest is hard work, but always a great time!

Winemaker’s Notes

** Each barrel was hand-selected for the blends in your shipment **

2009 Zinfandel After 54 months in American oak, this Zin has a beautiful balance of 46 West soil minerality, fruit, and oak.

2009 Syrah Raspberry, maple, & smoked bacon on the nose with bright fruit and tame tannins.

2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Last call! We sold out in the tasting room but saved just enough bottles to send with this shipment. Aged 54 months, this Cab has a cherry and spice nose with a clean tannic finish.

2010 Robles Rojos A Doce Robles classic, this Bordeaux-style blend is 40% Cab, 40% Merlot, & 20% Cabernet Franc. Flavors of raspberry and chocolate with a creamy vanilla finish.

Sunset Red IV A unique non-vintage, all-estate blend that ages nicely. Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Zinfandel, Merlot, & Barbera, with flavors of blackberry, licorice, and spice.

2010 Sy-rific-cab This 60% Syrah/40% Cabernet Sauvignon has minty walnut aromas with hints of cedar finishing with bright black cherry and bourbon vanilla.

Critter Corner!

2015 was a big year for the animals, too! The demolition of the house uprooted Shiloh and Roxy, Maribeth’s happy house cats. They vacationed at the local pet hotel for almost two months and upon their return settled right in to the new house. Meanwhile, Genna ruled the roost in the trailer & even got to snuggle with Mama Maribeth during the scary lightning storm!

Minnie continues to spend her days climbing barrels in the warehouse and her nights in the bed at the end of the tasting room counter.
